New PS3 Firmware Update 3.0

So today I decided that i would turn on my PS3 expecting to get the latest firmware update (3.0) and within a minute of turning it on there is was, a message asking me to update. After about 10mins of downloading and installing the PlayStation had finished with the update and turned itself off. When I turned it back on I was surprised at what I saw, it turned on with a new start up tune and showed the new PS3 logo in the corner of the screen. Also the XMB was filled with what looks like floating glitter flakes, a nice touch compared to the old waves that seemed quite plain. Some other features include the new “What’s New” section of the “Playstation Network” category where it shows you large thumbnails of different new things such as adverts for the “PSP Go” and various new games. Another feature is the friends list, this has been changed so that each of the users have their own new box, I am not really sure about this however at least now it matches the web based version. They have also done a few smaller changes such as adding a “PlayStation Store” icon to the games category, added friend count and a new box in the upper right corner. They have also added dynamic theme capability which i would imagine is so that themes can contain things like game scores; I am not 100% sure. A quick run through of updates are below:-

  • Sparkles added to the XMB
  • What’s New redesign
  • Friends list changed
  • Dynamic theme development support
  • New PS3 logo incorporated
  • iPlayer support
  • New avatars.
